Giving is divided into two categories: tithes and offerings. The Bible teaches us to worship the Lord with our tithe, which is 10% of our income, given regularly. Offerings are gifts given beyond the tithe when we feel calledTithing, or giving 10% of your income, is mentioned in
Malachi 3:10, where God promises blessings when we bring the full tithe into His house. It’s also considered holy, as stated in
Leviticus 27:30, where the tithe belongs to God. In
Matthew 23:23, Jesus affirms the importance of tithing but emphasizes that it should be accompanied by justice, mercy, and faithfulness.
Offerings are voluntary gifts given beyond the tithe. In
2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul teaches that offerings should be given cheerfully, not out of obligation. The story of the widow in
Luke 21:1-4 highlights that God values sacrificial giving, even if the amount is small. Similarly, in
2 Corinthians 8:3-4, the early Christians gave beyond their means, showing that offerings are a privilege and a way to support God's work.
In essence, tithes are a regular commitment of 10% to honor God, while offerings are additional gifts given freely and cheerfully to further His kingdom
